Hurricane blows games off course
published: Friday | July 8, 2005

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

THE INAUGURAL Jamaica Football Federation/Pepsi-sponsored Under-15 football competition which was rescheduled to begin yesterday has been delayed due to the effects of Hurricane Dennis.

The competition had originally been scheduled to begin on July 3 but inclement weather also saw play called off on that weekend. The games that were to be played yesterday included St. Thomas hosting St. Ann at the Cotton Tree field; Hanover were set to tackle St. James at Watson Taylor Park; Westmoreland would have gone up against Trelawny at Frome; St. Mary were to play against Portland at the Westmoreland Oval; while Manchester were supposed to meet St. Catherine at Brooks Park.

In addition to those games being postponed, the matches that were scheduled for the first week will also have to be rescheduled. This now puts the competition behind by nearly two weeks. The start of play ill now depend on weather and pitch conditions.

Elsewhere, semi-final play in the ISSA Grace/Jackie Hendricks Under-14 cricket competition also had to be put off because of the poor weather conditions. In Semi-final One Eltham High were scheduled to play Meadowbrook while in Semi-final Two St Jago were set to challenge Kingston College. The final, originally scheduled for today at Melbourne, will now also have to be put off.

Play in the Southern Basket-ball Conference league has also been put on hold. The competition is at its semi-final stage and Eltham Archers were set to challenge Hagley Park Thorns while the JDF were matched up against the Aqua Youth.
