The More than 2,700 people who were forced to evacuate their homes as a result of Hurricane Dennis, were still occupying shelters up to late yesterday afternoon.
Nadene Newsome, director of information and training at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Manage-ment (ODPEM), told The Gleaner
yesterday that her organisation was in the process of sending home people whose homes are deemed safe.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education's Enhanced Summer Literacy Camp, which was scheduled to get under way on Monday, has been postponed until next Wednesday.
Dorrett Campbell, director of communications at the Education Ministry, said the ministry still has not ascertained the readiness of the schools, as some are still being used as shelters.
She is urging principals to get in touch with the ministry to inform them about the status of the schools.
JSC examination postponed
And the Jamaica School Certificate (JSC) examination which was scheduled for Monday has also been postponed until July 18.
This is the second time the examination has had to be rescheduled. The examinations were originally scheduled for July 4-14.
More than 16,000 students are registered to sit the examination.
Next year is expected to be the last sitting of the JSC, as the ministry will be replacing the examination with the high school diploma.
