Portia is not clueless
published: Saturday | July 9, 2005

The Editor, Sir:

In reference to Mr. Chin's letter to the editor, stating that he was sorry for "Clueless Portia", I must say, I am sorry for him. For while he is naive enough to think that world leaders don't use advisers, I think it is even sadder that he thinks Portia is clueless.

Every world leader in this century uses and in the past used advisers in their effort to guide a nation or country. In countries where they do not, that sir, is known as communism. In any democratic society, world leaders rely on advisers to provide them with expert knowledge on several different types of subject matter. Their service is not to lead but to provide information only.

leaders ueed advisors

It is impossible for any one person to be knowledgeable about everything and so sir, it is imperative that today's leaders use the expertise and knowledge of advisers.

I hope that the next time you decide to put pen to paper or finger to keyboard you think clearly before proceeding to malign anyone who dares to take the task of running our little island.

Using Mrs. Simpson Miller's comment to determine she is not fit to lead the country clearly displays your ignorance. What do you know of Ms. Simpson Miller's record on the international stage? Very little I bet. Do your homework. In my opinion she is capable and qualified to run the country.

Portia took the bold step of acknowledging that she doesn't know everything, and I give her credit for that. Mr. Chin, take my advice, don't believe the hype, no politician knows everything, even if they act or think that they do. Look past the rhetoric to the real performance and see who has done more for Jamaica locally and otherwise.

I am, etc.,
