RAY CHEN'S latest book, The Shopkeepers, has received rave reviews from all who have read it and now students will get the chance to see for themselves.Super Plus Supermarket donated 250 copies of the book to the Jamaica Library Service. Wayne Chen, Super Plus' CEO, said he hoped the books would be available both as reference material and to be loaned so people could read them in the comfort of their home.
"My greatest hope for the book is that as many persons as possible will read it. It is one of the histories of Jamaica and it captures much of the development of Jamaica in the 20th century," said Mr. Chen.
SuperPlus has donated other books including "Reggae Roots; History of Jamaican Music" and Mr. Chen pledged his company's continued support.
"I believe there are 100 to 200 books never written every year. I encourage people to write them and we'll support you; even if it is short story or poetry," he pledged. Author Ray Chen was understandably a happy man.
"The book was 30 years in the making. I was thinking I had nothing of our history to pass on, to hand over to my children," he said.
