Normalcy returning to St Ann
published: Sunday | July 10, 2005

Devon Evans, Gleaner Writer

OCHO RIOS, St. Ann: LIFE IS returning to normal for some St. Ann residents, especially in the Cave Valley area where they had to abandon their home since Thursday as a result of flooding associated with Hurricane Dennis.

Several roads that were blocked since Thursday by rising flood waters are now cleared since the water began to recede early Saturday morning.

However, the police in Cave Valley are advising motorists travelling through the area to proceed with care because a lot of debris is still on the road and at some points, traffic has been reduced to a single lane.

While there have been no reports of damage to homes, except for flooding which took mud into some premises, farmers in Cave Valley and the adjoining communities such as Borobridge, were not that fortunate. Several farms were flooded, resulting in losses to vegetables and other crops.

Meanwhile, visitors staying at hotels on the north coast reported that they had found the experience very exciting. Prior to the passing of the hurricane, hotel operators said visitors were given the option of either leaving the properties or spending the period in designated safe areas and they opted for the latter.

General Manager of Sandals Dunns River resort, Louis Grant, said his guests were very excited and that the hotel had a hard time preventing them from running out occasionally to take pictures.
