SPANISH TOWN:
EVERETTE KILDERE, a 54-year-old sergeant in the Jamaica Constabulary Force, was shot and killed on Oxford Street in Spanish Town yesterday morning.
Sergeant Kildere was attached to the Portmore Police Station.
Reports are that about 9:30 a.m., the sergeant was at a bar when two men entered, both pulling handguns from their waistbands. They reportedly shot the lawman several times in the face. He died on the spot. The gunmen reportedly took Mr. Kildere's firearm before escaping.
Sergeant Kildere's death brings to 13 the number of policemen killed since the start of the year and the third from the St. Catherine South Division.
Inspector Lascelles Walsh and Constable Michael Francis were also gunned down.
Inspector Walsh was one of three policemen killed by gunmen in early May. He was gunned down along Port Royal Street; Constable Francis was killed in Portmore during an operation to rescue a kidnapped girl.
Yesterday, several members of the police hierarchy led by Deputy Commissioner Mark Shields, who is in charge of the crime portfolio, visited the scene where Sergeant Kildere was killed.
