THE EDITOR, Sir:
PLEASE ALLOW me to highlight the kindness, integrity, sincerity and selflessness shown to me by Air Jamaica employee Dominique Soutar, who is attached to the Miami International Airport.
Two weeks ago while travelling from Montego Bay to Miami on the national carrier I inadvertently left my purse, which contained US currency (more than $2,000 needed to buy a new computer among other things), credit cards and driver's licence on flight JM 020. I hadn't even missed the item from my handbag until later that day when I tried to check into a hotel and had no credit card to pay for my room and incidentals.
ALMOST DISCOURAGED
By the time I realised I had no purse, I felt it had fallen into either the shuttle bus I had taken from the airport or on the security belt at customs in Miami. I called all the agencies I dealt with that day except for Air Jamaica, and was almost discouraged from calling the airline, because friends told me, "If you left it on the airplane, it's gone, you will never find it."
By this time, Miss Soutar was doing her rounds on the aircraft and saw the purse and turned it over to her supervisor, Mr. Brent Brown, who worked feverishly at alerting my mother in Jamaica and my sister in Miami.
REFUSAL OF REWARD
By the time I got hold of the airline and left a message on Mr. Brown's voicemail relating my distress, he returned my call advising me he had the purse. When I went back to the airport I met the very pleasant and courteous Miss Soutar, who refused to accept a small reward from me. Her only concern was getting my heart rate beating on normal.
I wish to publicly thank Miss Soutar and Mr. Brown for their immense generosity.
I am, etc.,
