Henry is new JTA president-elect

HOPETON HENRY, principal of Seaforth High School in St. Thomas is president-elect of the Jamaica Teachers' Association.

Mr. Henry defeated three opponents, tallying 4,213 votes.

The other candidates were Cecelia Grant-Francis, principal of Kilsyth Infant and Primary School in Clarendon who got 3,699 votes, Claude Rattray, vice-principal of Christiana High School, who received 2,043 votes and Henry Palmer, principal of Duanvale Primary in Trelawny who got 1,111 votes.

Mr. Henry who was confident that he would have won the election said he was "elated, but humbled" by his victory.

He will be officially proclaimed as the new president-elect at the JTA`s annual conference in August, while Ruel Reid, the 2004/2005 president-elect, will be officially installed as new president of the organisation.
