WORLD JUNIOR silver medallist Schillonie Calvert and Theon O'Connor head 12 Jamaicans down to compete on tomorrow's opening day of the International Amateur Athletics Association (IAAF)/World Youth Championships in Marrakech, Morocco.

The Jamaica delegation arrived in Marrakech early yesterday morning after a gruelling 25-hour journey which took them through London and Madrid.

According to press officer Earl Bailey, they have now settled in and accredited, albeit without a change of clothes as their luggage was misplaced along the way and did not arrive with them.

Bailey said even up to mid afternoon yesterday, most of the athletes and officials were wearing the same clothes that they donned last Saturday.

NO TRAINING

"Only three of the girls received their luggage ... we can't train today (Monday) as the luggage should arrive around 4:00 p.m. (Jamaica time)," head coach Raymond 'KC' Graham, informed The Gleaner.

Calvert, who teamed up with Nickesha Anderson, Tracey-Ann Rowe, and Anneisha McLaughlin to pocket silver in the 4x100m behind United States at the World Junior Championships in Italy last summer, will be joined by Latoya King in tomorrow's first round of the girls' 100m preliminaries.

TO COMPETE

Both Calvert, a seventh place finisher in the 100m at the World Juniors, and King, the Carifta Games Under-17 200m champion, Cawayne Jervis and Yohan Blake in the boys' 100m preliminary will be in action.

Meanwhile, O'Connor who won the Austin Sealy award for the most outstanding athlete at March's Carifta Games in Trinidad & Tobago, will be joined by Andre Thomas in the first round of the boys' 800m.

Kerrion Stewart and Andre Collins will be looking to book places in the 110m hurdles semi-finals, when they face the starter in the first round of the sprint hurdles event.

The 400m heats for boys and girls are also on, Theo Bennett and Oshane Barham will contest the boys' event while Bobby-Gaye Wilkins and Shakeeri Cole face the starter in the girls' equivalent.
