Tribute to Justice Small
published: Wednesday | July 13, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I RECENTLY learned of the passing of the Hon. Mr. Justice Small, retired High Court Judge and distinguished contributor to the Jamaican justice system.

His colleagues in the legal profession have already paid tribute to his outstanding career.

My tribute comes from the Merl Grove community. Justice Small served as a member of the board of the school for many years and his service was given with humility and wisdom. The history of the school The Merl Grove Story records that history in the following way:

HIGHEST RANKING JUDGE

"His Honour Mr. Justice Ronald Small who though one of Jamaica's highest ranking judges never gave the impression of parading that ranking. His contribution and wise counsel over many years was much appreciated."

I remember him with great affection, and record the thanks of the school community for his contribution to the development of the school, particularly in its early grant-aided years when Merl Grove was beginning to find its place in the high school system.

I am, etc.,

ALFRED SANGSTER

Chairman, Board of Governors

Merl Grove High School
