WITH THE grey horse NASATOL scoring a 17-1 upset under Charles Hussey at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, both the Pick-9 and Super-6 bets offer carryovers.
The Pick-9, which embraces races three to 11 on tomorrow's card, offers $1 million while the Super-6 has $512,444.25 in the kitty.
We look at the Super-6 to be conducted from race six to 11.
It gets underway with a 3-y-o maiden race over 1600 metres to be contested by 11 starters, including the recently disqualified winner LEGENDARY GLITZ, FRANKIE MOREFIRE, SHINING SUN and ALLEGRO who wasn't disgraced last Saturday when running on well for fifth place (beaten 5 1/4 lengths) to BIRD STOW over 1500 metres. Given the additional furlong and the blinkers now fitted, ALLEGRO can make it happen.
LEGENDARY GLITZ scrambled home by a head from PRIME SUNDOWN over 1500 metres when last raced on June 22, only to be disqualified and placed last for causing the fall of EAST WIND a furlong out. The chestnut colt from the stables of Patrick Fong now has the services of title chasing jockey Brian Harding and could well atone in present company.
HARD TO BEAT
However, preference is for the lightly raced FRANKIE MOREFIRE who caught the eye when finishing 5 1/2 lengths third to PRIOR PARK in a fairly fast run 1500-metre race (1:35.1) on June 22. The chestnut colt reports in good nick and if more alert at the start, will prove hard to beat with Ian 'Dolly Baby' Spence in the saddle.
Next is a 1200-metre race in which WAR TURF (knocking at the door) can score an overdue win from her convenient mark of 51.0kg. The grey mare finished 2 1/2 second to UNQUESTIONABLE on May 28 and gets the nod over NAVAHO TRAIL (first time Lasix) who was claimed from Margaret Parchment by trainer Anthony Subratie on June 18 and has been looking up at exercise since. The free running PURE JUSTICE should also enter the reckoning in a field of 10.
Race eight for native bred three-year-olds over 1300 metres looks tailored for the free running filly LADY CHACHI, but CHARRITO and the recent winner SAYONARA, who has much scope for improvement, should ensure she is extended. LADY CHACHI finished a close second to ESTOY LISTO over the distance on June 18 and gets the nod on the strength of that performance.
Briefly, ROOM FORTYNINE with in-form Wesley Henry aboard, is preferred to BACHELOR OF ARTS, YABABIBI and ANCIENT SOUL in the ninth race over the straight five course, while it should be SIT-O, who was a fast-finishing second to stable-companion PITTACUS over 1400-metres recently, and VISCOSITY in the last two races. Their respective dangers are SWEET SOUTHERNGAL (working exceptionally well) and SIR ABBAS MANGAL in the closing race for $150,000 claimers.
