JRDC searches for new talent

SCORES OF non-racing drivers are expected to cram the Dover race circuit next Sunday. They will not be turning out to watch their favourite drivers in action, instead will be participating in a special driving course, organised by the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC).

The JRDC is the organisation responsible for promoting circuit racing at the island's premier motorsports race track over the past two years. It includes local based racing drivers, who have been acting in various capacities.

"The course will include a lot of theories and blackboard work," said Milton Cameron, the chief organiser of the course.

He further explains that each participant must take along a car, and must be equipped with a helmet. "A good bike helmet will work," said Cameron.

FRESH DRIVERS

Among the objectives of the temporary driving school are searching for new talents, sharpening one's driving skill and exposing new fresh drivers to the Dover circuit. The sessions will be conducted between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The instructors will include Gary Gregg, David Summerbell Jnr., Mark Creary, Chippy Addison, Peter Rae, Willie Worton and members of the Montego Bay Motoring Club, who are assisting with the process.

According to the JRDC, this is a pre-show to its big Independence race meet which is schedule for August 1. The event is dubbed "Knead for Speed". It will be a renewed rivalry between Kingston and Montego Bay drivers.
