'I do' by any means necessary
published: Sunday | July 17, 2005

Tyrone Reid, Staff Reporter

NOT EVEN Hurricane Emily could come between Claudette Rose Williams and her fiancé, Ronald St. Patrick Brown.

The loving and defiant couple did not deem the inclement weather, associated with the Category Four hurricane, a 'just cause' for postponing their wedding yesterday.

When The Sunday Gleaner visited the Portmore HEART Academy yesterday afternoon, instead of evacuees, there was a team of decorators busy adorning the auditorium which is usually a designated shelter.

The picturesque scene was being prepared to host the reception for the determined couple's wedding.

When The Sunday Gleaner spoke with the wife-to-be moments before she was scheduled to change her last name, an eager Ms. Williams said postponement was no longer an option.

"Well I just think that we should get it over and done with; we can't call it off at this point of the day," said the elated 31-year-old bride.

"He is more anxious than I am but I am too and I am not going to wait," Ms. Williams said, confirming the couple's anxiety to jump the broom in the rain.

The man of the moment, Mr. Brown, revealed that the couple had been planning for their big day since September last year and they would be saying their 'I dos' by any means necessary.

"Bwoy, we reach so far, so much planning, I decide seh we ago do this ting. We cyan stop God rain but we love one another, so why wait?" he asked as he waited for the arrival of his bride at the Church of God of Prophecy on Old Harbour Road, St. Catherine.

While his father was the 'doubting Thomas', Mr. Brown said his mother was instrumental in making the decision to tie the knot in the rain.

"God bless my mother. She said no matter the torrential rain she would be with me, even if is just me, my wife-to-be and her," he said.
