Williams leads J'cans in today's Thessaloniki Grand Prix
published: Sunday | July 17, 2005

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS silver medallist Christopher Williams heads a list of six Jamaicans down for today's Thessaloniki 2005, an IAAF Grand Prix II Meeting in Greece.

Williams, a former national 200m champion, will contest his pet event and will have alongside him compatriot Omar Brown, the third-place finisher at the National Championships. In the women's 200m, Peta-Gaye Dowdie will face CAC Championships winner Cydonie Mothersill of the Cayman Islands for the second time in days.

Dowdie, who won bronze at the CAC Championships, will also face American LaShauntea Moore in the event.

DIFFICULT

Patrick Jarrett should find things difficult in the men's 100m as the Trinidadian duo of Marc Burns and Darrell Brown with personal and season best times of 9.96 and 9.99 are the big favourites.

Brown, who finished second at the Trinidad and Tobago Trials, turned the table on Burns at the CAC Championships.

In the women's event, Dowdie will also face another Trinidadian duo of Fana Ashby and Jessy Harper.

Novelene Williams will do battle in the women's 400m while Aneita Denton, a silver medallist from last weekend's CAC Championships, will face the starter in the 800m.
