Keith Duncan heads securities dealers body
published: Tuesday | July 19, 2005

DUNCAN

KEITH DUNCAN, president and chief operating officer of Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd., was elected president of the Jamaica Security Dealers Association (JSDA) for the year 2005-2006 at the annual general meeting held last week Thursday.

Ms. Anya Schnoor, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Pan Caribbean Merchant Bank was elected vice president, while Ms. Lisa Gomes, president of Guardian Asset Management was elected secretary.

Charles Ross, managing director of Sterling Asset Management was named treasurer.

FUTURE PLANS

"As the new executive team, our role is to build on the work that has been done in the past, under the leadership of our immediate Past President, Peter Bunting" said Duncan in accepting his election. He noted that the JSDA is a fairly young organisation that has guided the securities industry through challenging times.

Major initiatives expected to be addressed in the coming administrative year will include:

Raising the public profile of the JSDA, introducing a public education programme, positioning the JSDA as the information source for all securities dealers and the financial industry across the Caribbean, maintaining the relationship with the FSC and building on capital adequacy models.

Mr. Duncan replaces Peter Bunting, who did not seek re-election. During Mr. Bunting's term in office, he was responsible for developing a more collaborative approach with the Financial Services Commission. The industry also improved its presence and position in the financial sector and recorded a most successful and profitable year.

The JSDA was incorporated in September 2002 to oversee all matters affecting licensees under the Securities Act in Jamaica. The association strives to promote the interests of the securities industry in Jamaica and to develop and improve standards within the industry.
