New United Kingdom High Commissioner takes up office

New British High Commissioner Jeremy Cresswell. - CONTRIBUTED

THE NEW British High Commissioner to Jamaica has taken office as of this week.

Jeremy Cresswell stepped into the post on Monday, replacing Peter Mathers, who just completed his three-year term.

Mr. Cresswell is a career diplomat, having joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1972 as a 22-year-old.

He arrives in Jamaica following his previous posting as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Berlin from March 2001 until April this year. Prior to that he was head of the FCO's European Union (EU) Bilateral Department.

Mr. Cresswell is accompanied by his partner, Dr. Barbara Munske, and has a daughter and son, both resident in the United Kingdom.
