published: Friday | July 22, 2005

A SUSPECT who was being held in connection with the rape and murder of seven-year-old Shaneika Anderson, was released from police custody after eyewitnesses failed to pick him out during an identification parade held on Tuesday.

"We just have to continue with our investigation now," said Deputy Superintendent Michael Ellis.

The superintendent explained further that DNA tests failed to provide any conclusive evidence against the suspect. He appealed to the public for help in finding the child's killer(s).

Anderson's body was discovered in bushes near the Manley Meadows Housing Scheme in Kingston on May 1.

DISAPPEARED

Reports said the she disappeared after accompanying her mother to the Coronation Market in downtown Kingston. Reports also said that she was abducted by a man who had offered her and a little boy patties and drinks.

According to the police, Anderson's body was discovered by a boy who went searching for his dog.
