THE DOVER racetrack, which has been the scene of some epic motor racing battles, will host a less competitive but fun event tomorrow when the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) holds a 'Driving Clinic'.
"We've designed the course to be educational, practical and fun, and we expect everyone participating to thoroughly enjoy the experience," said Milton Cameron, coordinator of the clinic.
Scores of non-racing drivers are expected to cram the 1.6 mile-long track for the special driving course, which was originally scheduled for Sunday but was brought forward to tomorrow because of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club's (JMMC) tarmac rally that was supposed to have taken place last Sunday, but had to be rescheduled because of Hurricane Emily.
"The course will include a lot of theories and blackboard work," said Milton Cameron, the chief organiser of the clinic.
He said each participant must take a car and be equipped with a helmet.
"A good bike helmet will work," said Cameron.
OBJECTIVES
Among the objectives of the temporary driving school are: searching for new talent, sharpening driving skills and exposing new drivers to the Dover circuit. The sessions will be conducted between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The instructors will include Gary Gregg, David Summerbell Jr., Mark Creary, Chippy Addison, Peter Rae, Willie Worton and members of the Montego Bay Motoring Club.
According to the JRDC, this is a warm-up to their big Independence Day race meet which is scheduled for August 1 and will renew the rivalry between Kingston and Montego Bay drivers.
