NEW YORK, CMC:

JAMAICAN DEFENDER Tyrone Marshall earned an 'Honourable Mention' from CONCACAF's Technical Study Group but no Caribbean player secured a pick on the Gold Cup All-Star team announced Saturday.

The 'All-Tournament Team' features the 'Best XI' along with seven Honourable Mentions, CONCACAF announced in a press release.

The selections were made from teams that reached at least the quarter-finals of the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, a ruling that disqualified players from other CFU teams such as Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba, who were eliminated at the first-round stage.

THREE-MAN BACKLINE

Panama's Jaime Penedo was selected as the goalkeeper in the tournament's Best XI, while the three-man backline includes Felipe Baloy of Panama, Jorge Samuel Caballeros of Honduras and Oguchi Onyewu of USA.

The midfield's Best XI is composed of Americans DaMarcus Beasley and Landon Donovan, Colombia's Jairo Patino, and Luis Ernesto Perez (Mexico), while the forwards are Tressor Moreno (Colombia), Luis Tejada (Panama) and Wilmer Velasquez (Honduras).

The All-Tournament team ends with seven players receiving honourable mentions _ goalkeeper Kasey Keller (USA); defenders Marshall (Jamaica) and Michael Umana (Costa Rica); midfielders Philip Evans (South Africa) and John O'Brien (USA); and forwards Jorge Dely Valdes (Panama) and Jafet Soto (Costa Rica).

Surprise team Panama were yesterday beaten 3-1 on penalties by former champiosn USA in the Gold Cup final at Giants Stadium in New Jersey.

Panama advanced to the final after finishing second in Group A during the first round, and then eliminating South Africa and Colombia in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively.

The USA, Gold Cup champions in 1991 and 2002, won their third title after achieving the top spot in Group B, and then defeating Jamaica and Honduras in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively.
