Massive campaign for Million Woman March
published: Tuesday | July 26, 2005

WITH ONLY a week to go until the Million Woman March is scheduled to take place, organisers say they are confident that the event will be a success.

Doreen Billings, head of female support group 'Mother in Crisis', the main organisers of the event, said her team would be embarking upon a massive promotion campaign right up to the August first march.

AIM OF THE MARCH

The group says the aim of the Million Woman March is to gather as many women as possible to declare that they will do all they can to tackle the scourge of crime. It will commence at the National Stadium and culminate at National Heroes Circle in Kingston.

"We will be flooding the air waves trying to get as many people involved as we possibly can. We will also be going out into the streets and making links with our extended team abroad to try and get the Jamaicans living abroad to rally for this important event," said Mrs. Billings.

CORPORATE BACKING

With a number of giant corporations throwing their backing behind the event, Mrs. Billings said she was confident the march would be a success.

"We're coming down to the wire now and I'm pleased because it all seems to be coming together. So far, the support seems promising. We are sure that by August 1 we will be much larger," said Mrs. Billings.
