Young Girls still on a roll
published: Tuesday | July 26, 2005

Aiken ... got a deserved rest yesterday. - FILE

JAMAICA'S YOUNG Sunshine Girls continued their devastating form yesterday inside the Broward County Convention Centre in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the home of the 2005 World Youth Netball Championships.

The World No. 2 ranked Girls rushed to the top of Pool B after a comprehensive 79-16 win over Canada. It was the third consecutive win of the championships for the Jamaicans who have so far racked up 98-6 and 48-37 victories over Bermuda and South Africa respectively.

AIKEN ABSENT

One stunning aspect of the Jamaican's game was the fact that the team accomplished the big win without assistance from goal shooting machine Romelda Aiken who was rested. Kadian Mendes and Latoya Thomas were the shooters who stepped up and delivered.

"The team did what was expected of them and for that I am pleased," Cargill said of the performance.

GOING FOR FOUR

Today Jamaica's young Sunshine Girls will be looking to make it four straight when they take on the hosts, United States at 6:30 p.m. It will be the third game for the United States, who on Sunday went down 34-32 to Canada. Cargill says that Jamaica will not be giving the United States a second win.

"We are definitely on target. The preparation is paying off and the girls are peaking at the right time. Today it is their duty to go out there and show that they are ready for the semi-final round," Cargill said.

"We have a plan for each team and tomorrow (today) after practice we will determine the combinations that we will be using against the United States. What I do know is that everyone will get a taste of the action," the coach added.

The United States' lone victory thus far was a 45-33 win over Bermuda last Thursday.
