Do better, JPS
published: Thursday | July 28, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM now convinced that JPS is only operating their business to collect money and not to offer a decent service to the public. I reported a fault with some light poles in Greater Portmore about a month ago and today (July 26, 2005) while I was at work I got a call that the pole was on fire, the same pole that to date no one has come to look at, and I am sure if I didn't pay my bill within a couple days someone would be on that same pole disconnecting my service.

I am sick and tired, and the irony of the situation is that when I called the fire department they responded quickly, but even after being on the scene for over half an hour JPS did not arrive. Now, I ask, suppose the fire department wanted the power to be turned off to put out the fire, what would have happened?

Suppose my house had burned down would JPS stand the cost? I, like many Jamaicans, need to see some improvement in their service apart from just disconnecting people's electricity.

I am, etc.,
