'Zekes' denied bail again
published: Thursday | July 28, 2005

WELL-KNOWN MATTHEWS Lane resident Donald 'Zekes' Phipps was yesterday denied bail when he appeared in the Home Circuit Court on a double murder charge. He is to return to court on September 21.

Phipps and Kingston labourer Garfield Williams are charged jointly with the murder of Rodney Leroy Farquharson and Dayton Williams of Bayshore Park, east Kingston. The burnt bodies of the two were discovered on April 15 in an open lot at Rose Lane near to Matthews Lane, downtown Kingston.

K. Churchill Neita, Q.C. made the bail application yesterday, but Justice Kay Beckford turned down the application.

Attorney-at-law C. J. Mitchell, who is representing the accused Williams, said he was not served with any documents relating to the charge, so he could not apply for bail.

Williams was remanded in custody to return to court tomorrow. Phipps is also facing charges for unlawful possession of over $18 million, which was found by the police at his upper St. Andrew home on May 21.
