REGGAE BOY Damion Stewart got off to a fine start in his stint with English First Division club Bradford City by scoring on his debut in a 3-2 victory against Darlington at the Williams Motor Stadium in a pre-season warm up game on Tuesday.
Stewart, in a similar fashion to his important goal which levelled the score against South Africa in the Gold Cup earlier this month, rose high above the Darlington defence to head home in the 31st minute to give his the club the final word in the friendly fixture.
The central defender played all 90 minutes of the game alongside veteran regular starter David Wetherall.
Despite being a part of a back four that has not played a lot together, Stewart impressed Bradford boss Collin Todd.
"We had a back four who hadn't played together. They hadn't worked on anything. But the boy Damion Stewart had something," Todd was quoted as saying of the performance on the Bradford City website.
His compatriot, national goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, was not as impressive in his first game for the club since returning from the Gold Cup.
Ricketts, who came on at half time, apparently pulled off a manoeuvre made popular by Liverpool's Bruce Grobbelaar when he dribbled around his area trying to lose attackers but eventually lost the ball.
This amused the crowd but failed to impress the Bradford manager who was infuriated, but no goal resulted from the incident.
Ricketts, who has still not been granted a work permit, was only able to play because there were no paying customers at the event, a hole in the Home Office policy.
