THE EDITOR, Sir:
ON THURSDAY, July 28, I was travelling from the north coast to Kingston via Mt. Rosser. As I started down the hill, I came upon a traffic block caused by a trailer which had overturned further down the hill. It was one and a half hours before any vehicle could move. It then took another hour to descend the hill to Ewarton because the pile-up of vehicles on both sides of the hill included a large number of trailers.
Since two trailers travelling in opposite directions cannot pass each other on a Mt. Rosser corner, all the other vehicles had to wait while the trailers negotiated each corner in single file. The journey from the beginning of Mt. Rosser to the foot of the hill, therefore took two and a half hours! With due respect to all who are trying their best to administer Jamaica, this should not happen!
Not so long age, I wrote an article stating that nothing would be done to correct the situation on Mt. Rosser until an extremely serious and tragic accident takes place. I now believe that if something is not done quickly, ordinary travel along this precipitous mountain pass will soon be virtually impossible.
What is happening daily on Mt. Rosser should not happen in any ordered society. May the Lord give us wisdom and divine direction for this hour.
