JEF condemns police protest
published: Wednesday | August 3, 2005

THE JAMAICA Employers' Federation (JEF) has condemned the recent industrial action taken by members of the police force.

Jacqueline Coke-Lloyd, executive director of the JEF, in a release, said: "It is clear ... that the type of industrial action taken by the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force) was at best misguided."

"We are not here to take issue with the organisation on the rightness or not of its claims against the Government. We acknowledge their right to bargain for better remuneration," she explained.

But she argued that they have responsibilities with respect to the maintenance of law and order and to the citizens of this country.

In the meantime, Dr. Peter Phillips, Minister of National Security, is expected to intervene in the wage impasse between the government and the Police Federation.

This followed a meeting yesterday with representatives of the federation and the Government at the National Security Ministry.
