SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:
THE TWO men who were shot and killed by the police during an alleged shoot-out in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, on Saturday have now been identified.
They are 28-year-old Gary Anthony Francis, unemployed, of Kitson Town, St. Catherine, and 21-year-old Fabian Nicholson of Oxford Road, Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
LEAD
The men were killed about 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, after they were intercepted by police personnel who were acting on information that there were two of four persons travelling in a car from Kitson Town where they had killed 28-year-old shopkeeper Denzel Harrow.
The Spanish Town police said that when the men were signalled to stop, occupants fired from the car. The police pursued them, and on reaching the vicinity of Old Harbour Road and Featherbed Lane, Francis alighted from the car and started firing. He was shot and killed.
The car sped off with the other occupants and was chased into Sydenham Villa where a shoot-out ensued and Nicholson was killed. The two other men escaped on foot. Nicholson was found clutching a gun.
