Young Boyz make bid for semi-finals

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC:

JAMAICA AND Trinidad & Tobago, having breezed through their preliminary round campaign of the Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup tournament with three wins in Group B and E respectively, will now focus their attention on a place in the semi-finals today.

Jamaica, who won their three Group stage matches, will face Group D winners Martinique in a 4 p.m clash at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, while Trinidad & Tobago's young Soca Warriors will focus their attention on Suriname at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya at 6 p.m.

Other teams making it into the last eight were group winners Canada and Guatemala and second placed team, the Netherlands Antilles.

Guatemala, one of two guest teams, play St. Vincent and the Grenadines while Canada, the other invited team, meets the Netherland Antilles.

At the end of the first phase of the competition, a total of 253 goals were scored from 30 matches, with an average of 8.43 goals per game.

Leading the goal spree were the young "Reggae Boyz" with a whopping 40 goals in three matches played in Group B, followed by Trinidad & Tobago with 29 and Canada with 25.

The winners of today's quarter-final matches will meet in Thursday's semi-final double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The final is carded for the same venue on Saturday from 1p.m.
