KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC:
BARBADOS DISMISSED Jamaica cheaply but then struggled in their turn at the crease, as both team battled over first innings points at the close on the opening day of their final round match in the TCL West Indies Under-19 Challenge yesterday.
Playing at the Arnos Vale 'A' Ground, Jamaica were bundled out for 110 after winning the toss but quickly reduced Barbados to 79 for five, still 31 runs adrift of securing first innings points.
Jamaica were in trouble from as early as the first over when fast bowler Javon Searles trapped left handed opener Damion Ebanks lbw for two, with the fifth delivery of the day.
From there on, Jamaica never really recovered and pacer Kemar Roach increased their worries with a sustained spell of fast bowling that earned him four for 17, and snuffed the life out of the innings.
Legspinner Nicolai Charles claimed two for 15 while left-arm spinner Steve Pinder assisted with two for 30.
Only pint-sized Andre McCarthy batting at number six showed any real resistance to the Barbados attack, top scoring with a patient 38 in 118 minutes of batting, including four fours.
When Barbados started their reply, they too started disastrously, losing their first two wickets for nine runs with Neval Grazette going for nought and Jonathan Carter (28) and Orman Kellman (21), in their contrasting styles, were associated in a fighting third wicket partnership of 34 before the aggressive Kellman was caught at slip off left arm spinner Alton Beckford.
Beckford finished with two for 21 to be the best Jamaican bowler on show.
At Sion Hill: Guyana, responding to Trinidad and Tobago's 133 all out, reached 113 for six. TRINIDAD 133 (Kieron Pollard 74, Sunil Narine 17; David Wallace 4-14, Jeremy Gordon 3-15). GUYANA 113-6 (Richard Ramdeen 41 ret. hurt, Gajanand Singh 38; Dane Teelucksingh 4-18).
At Arnos Vale: The Leeward Islands, responding to the Windward Islands' 261 all out, reached 36 without loss. WINDWARDS 261 (Ronald Etienne 65, Andre Fletcher 64, Heron Campbell 48, Donwell Hector 26, Dalton Polius 16; Chad Hampson 3-27). LEEWARDS 36-0 (Javia Liburd 25 not out).
