Local golfers swing into CAGC action today
published: Wednesday | August 10, 2005

JAMAICA'S NATIONAL golf team will swing into action today at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC) in St. Kitts.

While claiming the overall championship would appear well out of the team's reach as it goes up against strong regional rivals in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago, the side has a good opportunity to capture silverware in the mid-amateur section through the experienced pair of Phillip Prendergast and Mike Gleichman.

The women's team of experienced campaigners Maggie Lyn and Jodi Barrow plus rising youngster Lisandra Brown could also feature prominently in the chase for the George Teale Trophy.

UNLIKEY TO MAKE WAVES

Jamaica's five-man squad of Damion Spencer, Michael Scott, Radcliff Knibbs, Fabian Campbell and Mark Newnham is unlikely to make too many waves in the prestigious men's Hoerman Cup competition but should gain valuable experience when the event is staged here next year.

In the "older" ranks, CAGC rookies Bruce Lyn and Lincoln Williams are expected to struggle against tough senior opposition, while Maurice Foster and Herman McDonald will have to be on top of their games to make a mark in the superseniors.
