THE EDITOR, Sir:
I MAKE reference to an article in The Gleaner of August 8, 2005 regarding the negative review of Denbigh 2005.
The writer, Cecil P. Beharry, was spot on where the entire show was poorly displayed and poorly organised. Denbigh after 50-odd years ought to be delivering more and much more to the nation. It is my hope that the entire Denbigh grounds will be given to a competent landscaper where it reflects the farmers' ideals.
The zoo is the only area of the show ground that speaks of improvement and shows positive signs of what the grounds ought to be like. It is time the entire JAS board look at the 'show ground' as a show ground and not vendors' grounds. JAS needs to look at the positive, make it work for the citizens of May Pen and its environs as well as the entire Jamaica. The landscaping at the zoo is taking shape and I believe that in a few more years that area of the show ground will be the only place I would want to visit when it's Denbigh Day.
Get Denbigh landscape matching what I see at the zoo. Get Denbigh clean and cared for and it will make money throughout the year.
JAMAICANS DESERVE THE BEST
Let Denbigh reflect what the farmer views as a little 'Heaven on Earth'. Get effective and competent personnel to manage the facilities in some ways volunteering and also collecting fees to enter the facilities, if kept immaculately clean throughout the year, with good attraction, such as what is at the zoo.
The people of Jamaica deserve the best. Mr. President, let us use some of the millions collected last week to give back to the people a well kept and attractive Denbigh, not next year, but starting now.
I am, etc.,
