A 24-YEAR-OLD woman who is accused of shooting her friend to death will reappear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on August 23 to answer to the charge of murder. She is Tasten McCalla, of Gordon Pen, St. Catherine.
According to Detective Sergeant Derrick Ball of the St. Catherine North Homicide division, on December 10, 2004, at 10 a.m., the deceased, Rosemary Johnson, a 26-year-old, went to the home of McCalla when she was shot in the back of the head. Sergeant Ball said that McCalla told the police that she heard explosions and saw Johnson fall.
The police swabbed McCalla's hand for gun powder residue and the samples were sent to the Government forensic department, which tested the sample. It was proven that elevated levels of gun powder were found on the hands of McCalla. She was subsequently charged with murder by the police on July 15, this year.
When she appeared in court, she pleaded not guilty, and was remanded in custody by Resident Magistrate Coral Edwards.
