Lilliput 'black spot' claims two more lives
published: Thursday | August 18, 2005

Adrian Frater, News Editor

WESTERN BUREAU:

TWO SENIOR citizens, including a visiting American, were killed on Tuesday on the Lilliput main road in St. James.

The dead persons have been identified as 70-year-old Clarence Francis, of Rochester in New York, and 74-year-old Stephenson Manton, of Long Bay, in St. James. The accident also resulted in injuries to fellow St. James residents 35-year-old Rayon Campbell, of Flankers and 29-year-old Marvin Darling, of Anchovy.

COLLIDED AT INTERSECTION

The accident, which occurred around 1:45 p.m., involved a Chevrolet truck driven by Mr. Campbell with his friend, Mr. Dalling as his passenger, and a Toyota Corolla motor car in which Mr. Francis and Mr. Manton were travelling. The two vehicles collided at one of the busy intersections.

The two senior citizens died while undergoing treatment at the Falmouth Hospital while the injured men were treated and released.

The Lilliput main road has long been considered one of the nation's notorious 'black spots'.
