THE MINISTRY of Health has lifted the water advisory that was issued to the members of the public after hurricanes Dennis and Emily, last month.
"Based on the water quality, the general advisory can be lifted," Dr. Barry Wint, chief medical officer at the Water Ministry, told The Gleaner.
The advisory called for members of the public to treat water either by boiling or with bleach before drinking or using it to wash fruits and vegetables.
The advisory was issued because the quality of the water for drinking had deteriorated after the two hurricanes.
But Dr. Wint has now given the green light. "The water quality has returned to the pre-hurricane levels generally. The only exception is one community in St Elizabeth (which) will be advised locally," the Water Ministry said.
The National Water Commission (NWC) also confirmed that the quality of the water had returned to pre-hurricane conditions.
"We continue to produce and distribute water in keeping with international standards," said Charles Buchanan, corporate public relations manager at the NWC.
