NATIONAL MIDFIELDER Jermaine Hue is set to join two of his Reggae Boy teammates at United States Major League Soccer (MLS) club Kansas City Wizards.
Hue has signed a contract with the Wizards for the remainder of the season, which runs until November, and the deal could be increased by three more years, depending on his perfomance with the club which also includes fellow Jamaican internationals Shavar Thomas and Khari Stephenson.
"Everything is good. I signed with the Kansas City Wizards," Hue said without revealing financial details earlier this week.
HARD WORK PAYS OFF
With the deal done, Hue, who recently completed a one-week trial with the club, is just waiting to be told when to join his new teammates.
"I feel good about this development. These are the kinds of opportunities that I have been waiting for and I believe that the hard work has paid off," said the 27-year-old Harbour View star.
"I have put in a lot of work and I made a mark at the Gold Cup. I always believed that if I did that then people would see me. It is my time now. I have worked hard to reach here and it would make no sense to stop now," added the former St. Thomas Technical star with a sense of accomplishment.
With the final three years of his contract not guaranteed, Hue knows just what he has to do.
"The work has just begun. I am going to work hard to make a mark in the MLS so that they will sign me for the remaining three years," explained Hue who, along with Robert Scarlett who earlier this month joined another MLS team Real Salt Lake, departed Harbour View as a free agent.
TIME TO LEAVE
Of Harbour View, Hue said: "I have no regrets or heartbreak about leaving. There is no bitterness either, but I gave them 10 years of good service and it is my time now."
Hue will become the sixth Jamaican in the MLS after Andy Williams and Robert Scarlett (Real Salt Lake), Tyrone Marshall (LA Galaxy), Thomas and Stephenson.
"It is good that I will be at the same place with them (Thomas and Stephenson). It is not normal for so many Jamaicans to be at the same club," Hue said. "The will help me to settle in but the American players have been good to me too as they have been quite supportive. No one has shown me any bad face in my time with them," he said.
