NCB, C&W bmobile prepare for final knockout battle
published: Thursday | August 18, 2005

Carl Spence, Gleaner Writer

NATIONAL COMMERCIAL Bank (NCB) and Cable and Wireless' (C&W) bmobile will be the two teams contesting Saturday's final for the Courts Consolation Knockout crown after recording victories over Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) and Jamaica Sugar Company in yesterday's semi-finals at the Leila Robinson courts.

NCB recorded the largest margin of victory when they accounted for JUTC 23-10 in the first semi-final. The winners took charge early with swift passing and accurate shooting and had an eight-point cushion, 14-6, at the break.

Things didn't improve for the JUTC in the second half as NCB continued their dominance.

C&W STRUGGLE

C&W's win did not come as easy as they had to endure some aggressive defending from the Sugar Workers.

The 16-11 score in favour of C&W at the end of the first half meant little as both teams knew the game would boil down to who was making more interceptions. With C&W showing more stamina and accurate shooting, they were able to come away with a 28-22 victory.

The Consolation Knockout competition caters for the teams which did not make it to the quarter-finals of the Open League KO.

The semi-finals of Open League begin today with runners-up Bank of Nova Scotia 'A' squaring off with Department of Correctional Services 'A' in the curtain-raiser at 5:45 p.m.

Defending champions General Accident will play Jamaica Broilers in the 6:30 game at the Leila Robinson courts.
