published: Friday | August 19, 2005

Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

THE BUREAU of Special Investigation (BSI) will today formally arrest five of the six policemen in connection with the controversial Flankers, St. James, shooting of October 2003.

The Director of Public Prosecutions had last week ruled the five be charged. Two senior citizens were left dead in that incident and a third injured.

"After executing the warrants on them, they will be charged and taken before the Home Circuit Court," BSI head, Assistant Commissioner of Police Granville Gause, told The Gleaner yesterday.

The constables are to be charged with two counts of murder each and wounding with intent. Reports are the sixth policeman implicated in the incident is dead. Constable Howard Hardial was shot and killed on September 20, 2004, during a robbery at a bar in Jeffrey Town, St. Mary. At the time of his death, he was attached to the Special Anti-Crime Task Force.
