A MEMBER of the notorious 'Shotty Mark gang' was fatally shot by the police on Tuesday, while another two were arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
This followed a raid carried out by the police in the Ebony Road area of Kingston.
Dead is Ricardo Moore, alias 'Alah' and 'Black Leather', of Mahoney district, St. Andrew. Behind bars are Jason Cameron, 24, and Ian Ellis, 33, both of Ebony Road.
ILLEGAL WEAPONS SEIZED
An illegal .38 revolver and a plastic bag with 67 assorted rounds of ammunition were reportedly seized during the raid.
The police said Moore was out on bail, having been recently charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
Speaking with The Gleaner on Wednesday, Corporal Troy Anderson of the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), said the St. Andrew South Police have embarked on a programme targeting three notorious gangs in the division.
"The Shotty Mark Gang is responsible for at least 15 murders committed between February 1, 2004 and July 27, 2005," said Cpl. Anderson.
Reports relating to Tuesday's shooting are that the police, having arrived at Ebony Road, were greeted with gunfire by a group of men. During the exchange, Moore was killed and the other men ran in separate directions, leaving behind a black plastic bag with 39 twelve gauge cartridges and twenty-eight .38 rounds.
