Jamaica bounced out by T&T
published: Friday | August 19, 2005

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, CMC:

TRINIDAD AND Tobago cricketers gave an impressive all-round display to move into the final of the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge, defeating Jamaica by 35 runs in the semi-final at Arnos Vale A yesterday.

Set a competitive 166 for victory, the Jamaicans folded for 130 despite a fine sixth wicket partnership of 52 between Cordell Simpson (29) and Ziggy Levy (21).

Leading the victory charge for the T&T team was left-arm spinner Rishi Bachan who picked up four wickets, including a hat-trick in his eighth over and the 47th of the match, to dash whatever hopes the Jamaicans had of winning.

Bachan ended with figures of four for 21 and was well supported by pacer Jeewan Ramroop with two for 18, and off-spinner Sunil Narine two for 29.

Earlier, T&T won the toss and opted for first strike, and led by useful contributions from Mario Belcon (28), William Perkins (27) skipper Jason Mohammed (24) and Dion Bennett (24), posted a competitive 165 all out.

The Jamaicans were jolted very early in their victory chase, losing two wickets with only 16 runs on the board. Despite the sixth wicket stand by Simpson and Levy, none of the other batsmen were able to cope with the probing six-pronged attack employed by skipper Mohammed.

T&T will meet defending champion team Barbados in the final today.
