The grey MEETME AT THE WIRE is driven out by champion jockey Trevor Simpson to win the eighth race for maiden three-year-olds over 1100 metres in decisive fashion at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. TOMORROW'S 11-RACE programme at Caymanas Park offers another Pick-9 carryover, but it still stands at $1 million.
The Pick-6, on the other hand, was cornered by 27 punters - each receiving a cool $118,236.50. It starts anew with the guaran.
Meanwhile, tomorrow has been designated Jockey Club Day at Caymanas, the 11-race programme featuring the Jockey Club Stakes over 14-00 metres for three-year-olds and up.
This race, the 10th on the card, was previously confined to native bred three-year-olds, but CTL decided to change the format this year, giving the race overnight allowance status and opening it up to older horses as well.
The result of this move is that it has attracted a greater number of starters this year, including the classy three-year-old geldings KAMIR and AD INFINITUM as well as last year's Lotto Classic (Governor's Cup) and St.; Leger winner RUN PAPA RUN who is out for the first time since November of last year.
All three are well trained to meet this engagement and it promises to be a good race among them.
We look at the Super-6 which gets underway in race six with a 4-y-o and up maiden race over the the straight five course, this for the Calvin Wong Plaque, which should provide a three-cornered tussle for top honours among FACING FAME, LIGHTNING BINGO and FAITHFUL ROBBIE. All three have good speed and are effective over the straight as well, But the grey colt FACING FAME (knocking at the door) has not only worked well coming into this race but he gets a glorious opportunity to at last open his account from the convenient mark of 52.0kg.
JACK EM UP CATCHES THE EYE
The seventh race for the Cecil Langford Plaque promises keen competition among the seven starters, none of whom can be safely overlooked at a mile. JACK EM UP really caught the eye when chasing home THAT'S GOLD in a recent straight five race and having won over the distance back on Derby Day (June 4), will have to be caught with title-chasing jockey Brian Harding at the helm.
While respecting his chances, I prefer those of GATLIN who returns under new management (claimed), moving from Christopher Morrison to
The seven-year-old gelding, who beat a good field over 1500m on July 2, has been taken to task at exercise and with DaCosta calling on one-time stable jockey Trevor Simpson for the first time in months, the hint should be taken.
MEDICAL SOCA, who finished a close second to HEAD OVER HEELS at 1300 metres recently, gets the nod over FORSETI and QUEEN OF BETHNEY in the eighth race, while it should be the well-trained SIR KHAN over ANAMALANIA and ALL FIRED UP in the ninth race for the Clovis Metcalfe Plaque, this over the circular nine course.
It should be extremely close between the Richard Azan-trained KAMIR and the vastly improved AD INFINITUM (working exceptionally well) in the 10th, the Jockey Club Stakes.
KAMIR, though racing for the first time since the 2000 Guineas on April 2, has been extensively prepared and I am expecting the fleet-footed son of Prime Rate Powers to stave off AD INFINITUM. Then, take POWER CRACKER (knocking at the door) to beat MR. Q.G.P. and RISING MOON (Lasix administered) in the closing race for maiden three-year-olds.
