MoBay man killed Wednesday, father shot Thursday

WESTERN BUREAU:

The Montego Bay Police are probing a shooting incident involving a 51 year-old businessman by gunmen at Hart Street on Thursday night. The incident occurred a day after his son was gunned down in the same community. Investigators are now trying to identify the motive behind the shootings and are working to prevent further attacks in the inner-city area.

"We are doing something which cannot be disclosed yet. We are definitely looking at the incident intently because it is one that is of concern to us," said Superintendent Warren Clarke, commanding officer for St. James, yesterday.

Reports are that about 8:45 p.m., the businessman, Milton Crombie Sr. of Hart Street was at his shop in the area when two gunmen went there. The men opened fire at Mr. Crombie, hitting him five times. He was taken to hospital where he is admitted in serious condition.

The Gleaner was told that his daughter was escorted from the community yesterday with the assistance of the police.

"I don't know why dem shoot di man and kill him son. I hear a lot of talk, but if what they say is true, a petty things cause the shootings them," a woman in the area told The Gleaner. "Di bwoy dem fire up pure shot after dem shot the father and run di people dem a dem yard."

On Wednesday morning, 30 year-old Milton Crombie, Jr. was shot and killed by one of two gunmen outside his home. The police said that about 6:10 a.m., a man called young Crombie outside. He was shot when he went outside to the caller. He died on the spot. To date, 94 persons have been killed in the parish of St. James since the start of the year.
