THE CREAM of Jamaican go-kart racing crop will burn rubber against their counterparts from Trinidad and Tobago in an exciting two-day race meet to be held next Sunday at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Kingston.

Apart from the international flavour, it will also be the final event before the executive of the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) select the national teams now preparing for the world championships, scheduled for next month in Indiana, USA.

"We have given this international meet our blessings and will be watching it keenly, because we want to see the development of karting," said Errol Anderson, president of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC), the umbrella group responsible for motorsports in Jamaica.

He said the JMMC is fully aware of the improvements in the sport and is very supportive of the JKA.

"We would love to see our guys put up a grand show against the Trinis," the JMMC president said.

THE TRINI CONTINGENT

Among the list of Trinidadians down to compete against the Jamaicans are Justin Lennard, Rajendra Baboolal, Ryan Peyrau, Mark Gill, Sharaz Hosein, Aaron Lee, who will compete in the Light Class. Gerald Carrington, Shahinder Singh, Gary Hunt and Ravi Singh will participate in the Shifter Class.

Ravi Singh and Gary Hunt are no newcomers to the local circuit. Last year, they both competed in the Shifter Class and did very well. At that time, the Jamaicans were inexperienced with the shifter karts.

"Last year the Trinis dominated the Shifter Class," commented Dwight Moore, president of the JKA, who has also confirmed that a group of Americans have responded to the invitation at the last moment and given the assurance that they will be competing at the meet.

He said the motorsports fraternity is longing to have another international star, like in the hey days of the 'Big Man', Peter 'Jacko' Moodie, who is rated among the country's most talented circuit racing driver.
