An outbreak of immodesty
published: Sunday | August 21, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE MANNER of women's dressing has taken another serious turn and demands immediate attention.

Perhaps the leading women of this country may be slow in speaking in public about the total disregard and grave concern for this serious outbreak of immodesty which is taking over our homes, churches, offices, the daily newspapers and even throughout our beautiful island of Jamaica. Many middle-age women who wish to "appear young" wear the shortest dresses with very revealing necklines, showing off their deflated and oversized bosoms. Perhaps, many are doing it simply trying to keep up with world fashions and avoiding an out-of-date appearance.

There was a function showing on the television on Independence Day, with some ladies in some tight baby looking tops, with no respect for the Prime Minister and other dignitaries. We are 43 years old; we need to dress modestly in our bandana and black, gold and green dresses.

There are many women and even some younger ones who express disgust and disregard for the semi-nude women on our streets who contribute largely to the moral decay of our land.

Birth control by use of contraceptives will reduce the number of children born; but proper dressing on the part of women will do well to lessen the immoral practices of rape, fornication, adultery and uncleanness that are now damning our land.

There should be modesty and moderation in a woman's preparation, and her purpose of heart should be to glorify God and not to please self and the world.

I am, etc.,

BRIGITTE FOREMAN

Kingston
