Edwards and Best dominate
published: Tuesday | August 23, 2005

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC:

WEST INDIES fast bowlers Fidel Edwards and Tino Best made the headlines in the Legends Barbados Division One cricket competition this past weekend for different reasons.

Edwards had a four-wicket haul for his club YMPC, while Best continued to advertise his batting improvement with a well played innings for Pickwick on Saturday's opening day of the eighth round of matches.

At Beckles Road, home team YMPC struggled in reply against Banks, although Edwards helped reduce the visiting side to a weak first innings total of 128.

Edwards, one of the players opting out of the recent Sri Lanka tour because of the contract dispute with the board, snared four for 29 off nine overs for YMPC, who were reeling at 85 for six in reply.

West Indies batting allrounder Dwayne Smith, the YMPC captain, picked up two for 18 off eight overs, but was among the wickets to fall in his team's wobbly reply, caught at point for four.

Best helped his team stay afloat against Wanderers at Dayrells Road when he stroked 41.

Best, in his first game since returning from the Sri Lanka tour, played aggressively and complemented earlier knocks by captain Rondell Yearwood (61) ,and Canada's former national captain Joe Harris (51) in helping Pickwick to 246 for eight at stumps.
