Boyz tackle Guatemala in friendly
published: Wednesday | August 24, 2005

Nodley Wright, Freelance Writer

THE REGGAE Boyz will play Central American team Guatemala in a friendly international at Jarrett Park on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

This game, their first since the CONCACAF Gold up in July, will be the third game of a triple-header. It will be preceded by a 3:00 p.m. matchup between the daCosta Cup teams of Cornwall College and Munro College for the Jackson Memorial Shield. That game will then be followed at 5:00 by an encounter between the Cornwall College and Munro College Old Boys.

For the game against Guatemala, Jamaica will feature an entirely local-based squad of which only midfielder Jermaine Johnson, currently without a club, Garfield Reid (Rivoli), Desmond Breakenridge, Demar Phillips, Richard McCallum (Waterhouse), Shawn and Tyrone Sawyers as well as the talented young defender Rudolph Austin all of Portmore United in the invited squad of 25, have any experience at the international level. That squad will be cut to 18 for Saturday's game.

"A lot of those who would be considered our regular players are unavailable because their season is just starting or a number of them are overseas with their clubs. These are the best players available according to the coach," explained Jamaica Football

Squad: Shawn Sawyers (Portmore), Ralston Robinson (Constant Spring), Richard McCallum (Waterhouse), Garfield Reid (Rivoli), Tyrone Sawyers (Portmore), Desmond Breakenridge (Waterhouse), Rudolph Austin (Portmore), Keneil Moodie (Reno), Kieron Bernard (Portmore), Oneil Thompson (Boys' Town), Demar Stewart (Portmore), Omar Dallas (Reno), Orane Simpson (Tivoli), Nicolay Findlayson (Reno), Rafe Wolfe (Portmore), Demar Phillips (Waterhouse), Leon Irving (Village), Mario Swaby (Portmore), Omar Daley (Portmore), Jermaine Johnson (unattached), Roland Dean (Tivoli), Newton Sterling (Mona), Steven Morrissey (Portmore), Sean Coleman (Rivoli) and Wilfred Smith (Seba).
