LETTER OF THE DAY - 'Is the Government creating a monster?'
THE EDITOR, Sir: AN ARMY of battle-ready police was sent from Kingston on the morning of Friday, August 19, to the Mandeville Market and the people had to call on Deputy Mayor Sally Porteous to calm the situation before it got out of hand.

Killing with impunity
THE EDITOR, Sir: THAT TWO men were able to walk into a school, in the middle of the day and kill the principal conjures up images of the lawless American West where vigilantes and vagrants pillaged and killed with impunity.

THE EDITOR, Sir:THE GOVERNMENT of Jamaica needs to give serious attention to the state of the Jamaica Fire Brigade. There needs to be a management audit which would take into account the desired response time to fires...

Nettleford's flag
I WRITE in response to Professor Rex Nettleford's article of August 23 regarding the significance of the colours of the Jamaican flag, especially the "contentious nature of the symbolism for the colour black".
