THREE persons were shot dead and another injured by gunmen in the Maxfield Avenue area Yesterday.

Dead are Anthony Edwards, Sean Wilson and Henry James. Edwards and Wilson were murdered on their way to purchase groceries along Maxfield Avenue in Kingston.

According to the police, the two men attempted to run for their lives, but were cornered by a group of gunmen who shot and killed them about 7:30 a.m.

The police are now looking for four men known only as 'Papa', 'Bull Head', 'Government' and 'Raper', all of a Sweattingham Road address in Kingston.

Deputy Superintendent Delroy Hewitt, commanding officer for the Kingston West Police Division, said the police were unsure of the motive for the killings.

Information received by The Gleaner indicated that the men may have been killed in reprisal for the death of a man known as 'Blacks', who was murdered about two weeks ago.

James was shot and killed on Rodney Avenue after being beaten with a hammer. Later in the day a woman was shot in the head and leg by a man who alighted from a car. She was taken to hospital.
