WICB criticises Lucky for giving report to Mitchell
published: Saturday | August 27, 2005

Mitchell: Report will be passed to CARICOM chairman. - File

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua, CMC:

THE WEST Indies Cricket Board has hit out at Justice Anthony Lucky for handing over the Lucky Commission Report to Grenada's Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell.

"The West Indies Cricket Board is appalled that Mr. Justice Anthony Lucky has seen fit to distribute a report, which had been commissioned by the board, to the Prime Minister of Grenada," a release from the board said yesterday.

UNFORTUNATE

In a meeting with Prime Minister Mitchell yesterday, Justice Lucky handed over a copy of the report which Mitchell said would be passed on to CARICOM Chairman Prime Minister Kenny Anthony.

The board said that it was "unfortunate" the report had been distributed before its directors had got the opportunity to study it.

"While understanding the interest that the West Indian people must have in the findings of the report, it is unfortunate that this type of distribution should be made in advance of the directors of the WICB having had an opportunity to consider the document," the release continued.

"This is particularly so, since it is now public knowledge that a special meeting of the executive of the board of directors has been called for September 4. This meeting has been arranged within three weeks of having received the report on August 15."

DISTANCED THEMSELVES

This comes a day after two members of the Lucky Commission, Gregory Georges and Avondale Thomas, distanced themselves from declarations made by Justice Lucky which appeared in a section of the media.

It had been reported that Lucky said the Digicel sponsorship agreement was never ratified, and in these circumstances, he felt the contract could be declared null and void.
