LONDON, CMC:

WEST INDIES batsman Chris Gayle continued his good form with the bat while his counterpart Ramnaresh Sarwan starred in an unlikely role in the English County Championship yesterday.

Playing for Worcestershire at Blackpool, the 25-year old Gayle slammed a cavalier 43 from 25 balls with eight fours as his side reached 111 for three at the close in response to Lancashire's mammoth 562 for eight declared.

He shared a 59-run opening stand with Stephen Moore who got 40, but became the first of Dominic Cork's two wickets when he was bowled.

Worcestershire were 451 runs behind at the close of Day 2.

At Bristol, Sarwan grabbed two for 38 as Gloucestershire struck back late in the day, after earlier conceding a first innings lead of 249 to Glamorgan.

Resuming at 350 for eight, Glamorgan were bowled out for 382 and then reduced Gloucestershire to 133 all out, with Sarwan falling for nought.

However, the 25-year old Guyanese hit back with the ball dismissing Jonathan Hughes (21) ,and Mike Powell (26) as Glamorgan reached 151 for five, an overall lead of 400 runs.

At Grace Road, former Barbados and West Indies all-rounder Ottis Gibson slammed an unbeaten 63 as Leicestershire reached 390 for six in their first innings on the third day of their game against Northamptonshire.

Gibson cracked five fours and two sixes in the innings which required just 70 balls, and has so far shared an unbroken 98-run, seventh wicket stand with Paul Nixon who was on 32.

Darren Robinson top scored with 139.
