More to the JPS story?
published: Tuesday | August 30, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE OWNERS of Jamaica Public Service bought the company fully aware of the unavailability of insurance for their power lines, etc.

Now the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) and even the greater public are to feel sorry for their loss due to the hurricane and consent to increase fees? I think not.

There is obviously more to this story than meets the eye and, quite honestly, I don't see why other utility companies can't come along and claim the same thing.

JPS has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that, where there's catastrophe there's opportunity. Thank you, OUR for opening the floodgates and making the Jamaican public pay more for electricity and who knows what else. Lest I forget, thank you, the Jamaican Government, for putting us in this no-win situation.

I am, etc.,

DAMEION FAGAN
